Tabla Education:

He was inspired to play the Tabla by his father late W.R. Chishti who was a Violinist and music director in his hometown, Faizabad. After some time, Dr. S.R. Chishti was taken as a disciple by Pt. Bansi Lal who was trained by Khalifa Ustad Wajid Husain Khan (Lucknow Gharana). Later on, the author was trained by the late Acharya Girish Chandra Srivastava (Allahabad). Finally, his training was completed under the discipleship of Khalifa late Ustad Afaq Husain Khan of Lucknow Gharana.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Music (Tabla) Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University, Agra, M.A. (Music) from Indira Kala Sangeet University, Khairagarh (Chattisgarh), B.A. from Avadh University, Faizabad (U.P.), UGC-NET (Music) Aligarh Muslim University, Sangeet Praveen and Sangeet Prabhakar from Prayag Sangeet Samiti Allahabad in Tabla and Vocal respectively, Sangeet Bhaskar in Tabla from Pracheen Kala Kendra Chandigarh and Adeeb Kamil in Urdu from Jamia Urdu, Aligarh.

Accomplishments / Performances:

Delivered lecture and demonstrated Tabla in conversation with Mr Harjeet Singh in collaboration with Sarb Akal Music Society of Calgary, Canada. The show is available at SARB AKAL TV Youtub channel.

Solo and Accompaniment Performances in the programme Phulwari in Doordarshan Kendra, Lucknow since 1978, In Begum Akhtar Sangeet Samaroh, Ayodhya since 1979 for Tabla Solo and Violin Sangat. He was honoured by a renowned Pakhawaj player Dr. Swami Ramshankar ‘PagalDas’. Presentation of his art in All India Radio Allahabad in the programme ‘Yuva vani’ since 1988, The regular B-High grade artist of All India Radio Agra since 1995, Honoured by Swami D.R. Parvertikar Sangeet Sansthan, Mathura in 2004, The presentation of Tabla concert in Spic-Macay”, “Taj Mahotsav”,“Lucknow Mahotsavand Governor HouseLucknow.

Acted as the examiner in Prayag Sangeet Samiti Allahabad and other universities since 1993. As a Music Expert for the selection of teachers of Navodaya Vidyalaya. Given estimation and prestigious judgment for various musical competitions, including the competitions held under the auspices of Association of Indian Universities (AIU) New Delhi, Sanskar Bharti, Bharat Vikas Parishad, Atomic Energy Central School and Ahlcon International School, New Delhi and more. Got the achievement to be first author of penning the book on Tabla named ‘Fun-e-Tabla’ in Urdu language after 1906.
